Kanonji begins as satire of supernatural television: flashy clothes, catchphrases and confidence conceal serious ignorance about how souls become Hollows. The discovery that his methods caused harm genuinely horrifies him. That capacity for shame allows the performer to become more responsible without losing the persona that inspires his audience.
His heroism is credible precisely because his power remains small. Facing a transformed Aizen is not tactically useful in the usual sense, but Kanonji refuses to let children see their hero run from danger. Bleach treats the act as absurd and brave at once, preserving comedy without making courage meaningless.
Don Kanonji is a nationally famous television medium and host of a live spiritual-investigation program. His first visit to Karakura Town nearly turns tragedy into entertainment when his mistaken exorcism accelerates a Demi-Hollow's transformation, but Ichigo helps him understand the danger and defeat the resulting Hollow.
