Profile overview
The hospital spirit is less a mastermind than a demonstration of process. His greed and resentment keep him bound to one place, the Chain of Fate corrodes, and well-intentioned interference makes the final change happen faster. The episode turns Rukia's explanation of Hollowfication into a visible sequence.
It also gives Don Kanonji's comedy a moral consequence. Kanonji can truly perceive spirits and genuinely wants to help, but confidence without knowledge harms the person he is performing over. His willingness to face the resulting Hollow and hear Ichigo's correction keeps the mistake from defining him completely.
The Demi-Hollow begins as a Jibakurei, an earthbound spirit chained to an abandoned Karakura hospital. In life, he expected to inherit the hospital and profit from it, but resentment toward the younger brother who received it kept his soul attached to the building after death. During a live broadcast, Don Kanonji mistakes the opening in the spirit's chest for a point to exorcise and pushes his staff into it. The intervention breaks the remaining Chain of Fate and accelerates a transformation that would otherwise have taken months. As a Hollow, the spirit attacks Kanonji and Ichigo Kurosaki before Ichigo purifies him.
