Profile overview
Numb Chandelier makes friendship physically dangerous by taking away the victims' control while leaving their familiar bodies visible. Orihime cannot solve the situation by treating Tatsuki as an enemy, because the relationship she wants to protect is exactly what the Hollow has weaponized.
The victory is therefore more than a sudden power reveal. Orihime remembers how Tatsuki protected her after Sora's death and decides that care must become reciprocal. Her hairpins, once a family keepsake, answer that decision as a power built around rejecting harm.
Numb Chandelier is one of the Hollows drawn into Karakura Town by Uryū Ishida's Hollow bait. Rather than fight directly, she scatters small bulbs that attach to people and let her control their bodies. She takes over students at Karakura High, including Tatsuki Arisawa and Chizuru Honshō, and makes them attack Orihime Inoue. Orihime's determination to protect Tatsuki activates the six spirits within her flower hairpins. Santen Kesshun blocks the possessed students, Koten Zanshun cuts Numb Chandelier, and the newly awakened Shun Shun Rikka destroys the Hollow.

Aliases
The possession Hollow, Karakura High Hollow, Orihime's first defeated Hollow
Role
Sadistic Hollow whose human-control bulbs force Orihime to awaken Shun Shun Rikka in defense of Tatsuki
Important relationships
- Orihime Inoue is Numb Chandelier's intended victim, but protecting her friends awakens the power that destroys the Hollow.
- Tatsuki Arisawa is possessed and forced to attack Orihime, turning years of mutual protection into the emotional center of the battle.
- Chizuru Honshō and other Karakura High students become unwilling puppets through the scattered control bulbs.
- Uryū Ishida releases the Hollow bait that draws Numb Chandelier and many other threats into Karakura Town.
- Ichigo Kurosaki is occupied by the wider Hollow outbreak, leaving Orihime to discover that she can defend her own part of the city.
- The Shun Shun Rikka spirits emerge from Orihime's hairpins and give form to the protective resolve Numb Chandelier provokes.
Defining moments
- Arriving during the Hollow-bait crisis makes Uryū's competition immediately dangerous to people outside his duel with Ichigo.
- Infecting Karakura High students turns an ordinary school setting into a field of unwilling attackers.
- Making Tatsuki strike Orihime forces the victim to protect a friend without retaliating against her body.
- Hearing Orihime promise to protect Tatsuki marks the emotional decision that precedes the supernatural awakening.
- Losing a tentacle to Tsubaki reveals that the apparently helpless student now possesses an offensive power.
- Being destroyed by Koten Zanshun gives Orihime her first independent Hollow victory.
Symbolism and visual design
The chandelier-like body hangs above the students as a remote controller, treating people below as movable objects.
Possession represents social harm without consent: familiar faces perform violence while the true aggressor stays at a distance.
Orihime's flower hairpins oppose Numb Chandelier's bulbs, contrasting a gift preserved through love with objects planted for control.
Tatsuki's captured body makes Orihime's new power relational from its first appearance rather than a pursuit of strength for its own sake.
Manga-versus-anime differences
The manga gives Numb Chandelier explicit, disturbing threats that emphasize her sadism before Orihime awakens Shun Shun Rikka. The core sequence centers on possessed students, Tatsuki and Orihime's decision to protect her friend.
The anime softens some of the manga's most graphic threatened violence and stages the awakening with extended movement and reaction shots. The power outcome remains the same: Orihime blocks harm and Tsubaki destroys the Hollow. Yōko Sōmi voices Numb Chandelier in Japanese.
