Profile overview

Bulbous G is built around a simple mismatch: enormous visible force against a protector who can barely perceive what he is fighting. Chad's courage exists before his Fullbring. The arm appears only after he has already chosen to stand up, absorb damage and place himself between the Hollow and several children.

The encounter also reveals the civilian cost of Uryū's challenge. The bait does not summon abstract targets into a controlled arena; it disperses predators across a populated town. Bulbous G turns an argument about Soul Reaper and Quincy methods into danger for Karin and her classmates.

Bulbous G is one of the Hollows drawn into Karakura Town when Uryū Ishida scatters Hollow bait during his contest with Ichigo. The massive Hollow attacks Karin Kurosaki and Yasutora Sado, who can sense its position but initially lacks a spiritual weapon. Chad uses his body and nearby objects to keep the threat away from the children, suffering heavy blows in the process. When Bulbous G prepares to attack Karin's friends, Chad's protective resolve manifests as the armored right arm later called Brazo Derecha de Gigante. Two powerful blasts destroy the Hollow.

Personality and motivation

  • Aggressive
  • Relentless
  • Driven by Hollow appetite
  • Direct rather than tactical
  • Enraged after being wounded

Abilities, powers and limitations

Abilities

  • Using a massive muscular body and oversized fists for crushing close-range attacks
  • Overpowering Chad before his spiritual arm manifests
  • Withstanding improvised physical resistance from a human of exceptional natural strength
  • Tracking spiritually aware people during the citywide Hollow-bait outbreak
  • Continuing to attack after losing an arm to Chad's first energy blast
  • Creating enough immediate danger to trigger Chad's dormant Fullbring under protective stress

Limits

  • Bulbous G demonstrates no named special ability beyond Hollow strength and spiritual presence.
  • Its attacks are direct and predictable, with little evidence of strategy or deception.
  • Ordinary size and muscle become irrelevant once Chad's armored arm can project concentrated spiritual force.
  • Losing one arm does not make it reconsider the fight, and rage pushes it into a second fatal charge.
  • Two attacks from the newly awakened Brazo Derecha de Gigante are sufficient to destroy it.

Aliases

The Hollow that awakened Chad's arm, The guardian-lion Hollow, Hollow-bait attacker

Role

Brute-force Hollow whose attack on Karin and her friends triggers Chad's first manifestation of Brazo Derecha de Gigante

Important relationships

  • Yasutora Sado protects the children from Bulbous G and awakens Brazo Derecha de Gigante during the fight.
  • Karin Kurosaki can perceive the Hollow more clearly than Chad and helps direct him toward a threat he can only partly sense.
  • Ichigo Kurosaki's spiritual influence contributes to Chad's growing awareness before the latent power fully manifests.
  • Uryū Ishida releases the bait that attracts Bulbous G, making the Hollow one consequence of his reckless competition with Ichigo.
  • Heita Tōjōin, Ryōhei Toba, Kei Uehara and Kazuya Usaka are Karin's friends, whose danger becomes the final trigger for Chad's arm.
  • Numb Chandelier attacks elsewhere during the same outbreak, showing that several friends awaken powers because the bait spreads danger across Karakura.

Defining moments

  • Answering Uryū's Hollow bait places a powerful predator near children who know nothing about the contest that endangered them.
  • Striking Chad before he can clearly see the attacker tests protection without reliable information or supernatural equipment.
  • Watching Chad continue to rise establishes that his durability is moral as well as physical.
  • Threatening Karin's friends pushes Chad's protective instinct beyond what his unaided body can accomplish.
  • Losing an arm to the first blast marks the appearance of Brazo Derecha de Gigante.
  • Charging again and being destroyed by Chad's second strike completes the first demonstration of his spiritual offense.

Symbolism and visual design

Bulbous G's exaggerated fists mirror Chad's natural reputation for physical strength before his power gains a spiritual form.

The guardian-lion shape is inverted: a figure associated with protection becomes the danger that calls a true protector forward.

Chad fighting an enemy he cannot fully see represents trust in vulnerable people whose warnings others might dismiss.

The Hollow's destroyed arm visually precedes Chad's transformed arm, shifting control of overwhelming force from predator to defender.

Manga-versus-anime differences

The manga introduces Bulbous G during the Hollow-bait crisis and keeps the focus on Chad protecting Karin and the other children until his right arm awakens.

The anime expands the pursuit, impacts and reactions surrounding Chad's transformation but does not give Bulbous G an additional named technique. Hisao Egawa voices Bulbous G in Japanese.
