Profile overview
Grand Fisher is the first enemy to turn Ichigo's protective instinct into a liability. The lure does not merely disguise the Hollow; it presents a person the target cannot ignore. Ichigo's childhood compassion, his grief for Masaki and his refusal to strike her image all become openings for attack.
The later encounter with Isshin recontextualizes that trauma. Ichigo believed he caused his mother's death and initially could not finish her killer. Isshin's calm victory shows that the family history contains powers and knowledge Ichigo has not yet been given, while refusing to make revenge the only meaning of Masaki's life.
Grand Fisher is a Hollow that evades Soul Reapers for more than fifty years by using a human-shaped lure to attract spiritually aware prey. Six years before the main story, the lure appears to young Ichigo Kurosaki as a girl in danger. Masaki Kurosaki moves to protect her son and is killed by the Hollow. When Grand Fisher returns on the anniversary of her death, it searches Ichigo's memory and makes the lure resemble Masaki, but Ichigo wounds it and forces it to flee. Grand Fisher later becomes an imperfect Arrancar and returns to Karakura, where Isshin Kurosaki kills it with a single strike.
