Profile overview
Jirōbō is less important as a measure of raw strength than as a moral contrast. He boasts about rank and a fearsome nickname, yet chooses the apparently vulnerable person beside his opponent. Uryū's anger comes from recognizing that tactic as cruelty rather than intelligence.
Tsunzakigarasu could be dangerous in crowded space because attacks can approach from several directions at once. Its weakness is the person controlling it. Jirōbō underestimates a precision fighter, wastes attention on Orihime and assumes that many blades automatically defeat a faster ranged weapon.
Jirōbō Ikkanzaka is Jidanbō's younger brother and a former Fourth Seat of the Seventh Division. He intercepts Uryū Ishida and Orihime Inoue during their infiltration of the Seireitei and releases Tsunzakigarasu, scattering his blade into numerous double-edged projectiles that he directs through the air. Jirōbō repeatedly targets Orihime instead of concentrating on the Quincy fighting him. Uryū destroys every projectile, breaks the surviving hilt and then shoots the Saketsu and Hakusui points that sustain Soul Reaper power. The defeat strips Jirōbō of those powers and ends his position in the Gotei 13.

The television anime preserves the flying-blade mechanics and the outcome while extending portions of the exchange for action pacing. Kazuhiro Nakata voices Jirōbō in Japanese. Neither version reveals a Bankai.
