Profile overview
Totosai treats a sword as a relationship between material, purpose and wielder. Forging power is not enough: the weapon responds to the values and growth of the person carrying it. This is why his explanations often sound less like technical instruction than an argument about what strength should protect.
His habit of fleeing danger complicates the image of a master craftsperson without emptying it. Totosai knows when direct combat is not his role, and survival lets him preserve knowledge that stronger demons repeatedly need. The comedy also prevents ancient authority from becoming unquestionable solemnity.
Totosai is an elderly demon swordsmith who forged Tessaiga and Tenseiga from the fangs of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's father. He advises both brothers about their inherited weapons, although he often hides lessons inside evasions, tests and apparently comic cowardice.
