Profile overview
Cang Du fights with severe economy. He says little, protects himself through The Iron and treats orders as obligations rather than opportunities for spectacle. That restraint distinguishes him from the louder Stern Ritter without making his loyalty any less absolute.
His belief that companions who live together should meet death together gives an austere logic to his intervention against Bazz-B. Yet the Wandenreich does not return that solidarity. Cang Du survives an enemy captain only to be judged by his own side, revealing how little personal discipline protects a soldier inside Yhwach's hierarchy.
Cang Du is Stern Ritter I, The Iron, and one of the Quincy officers assigned to invade Soul Society. During the first assault he takes Daiguren Hyorinmaru from Toshiro Hitsugaya with a Bankai-stealing medallion. He returns to finish the captain during the second invasion, but Kisuke Urahara's Hollowfication pill forces the stolen Bankai back to its owner and reverses the advantage on which Cang Du's mission depended.
