Profile overview
Racer's central trick is psychological as well as magical. Opponents believe they are facing absolute speed, so they make hurried decisions inside a field already designed to delay their responses. Gray and Lyon win by replacing awe with observation.
His prayer reveals that speed is not primarily about victory. Sawyer wants distance from a place where he was powerless and from sounds he could not stop. Crime Sorciere matters because movement becomes purposeful pursuit rather than endless flight.
Sawyer is one of the children Brain takes from the Tower of Heaven system and remakes as a member of Oracion Seis. Under the codename Racer, he claims unmatched speed and supports that reputation with motorcycles, magical vehicles and a spell that changes how time is perceived around him. Rather than accelerating his own body without limit, Sawyer slows the reactions of people caught within his magical field, making ordinary movement appear impossibly fast. His personal prayer is to become faster than anyone, a wish rooted in the need to escape the suffering and screams of captivity. During the Nirvana campaign, Racer separates Gray Fullbuster from the allied force and later faces Gray and Lyon Vastia together. The two ice mages identify the rule behind his speed and coordinate beyond the field's advantage, leading to Sawyer's defeat and arrest. He is eventually released during the Tartaros crisis with the surviving Oracion Seis members. After Jellal defeats the group, Sawyer joins Crime Sorciere and uses the mobility once built around escape in service of a guild pursuing dark mages.
