How this page was built

The exercise uses original construction diagrams and variation prompts rather than reproducing a protected character.

Materials

Use a pencil, eraser and unruled paper, or a pressure-sensitive digital brush. Keep early marks light.

  • HB pencil or light digital brush
  • Eraser
  • Optional ruler for alignment

Construction

Start with the eye socket direction, place upper and lower lid arcs, then add the iris as a form partly covered by the lids. The pupil, highlight and lash weight come last.

Four panels show an original anime-inspired eye progressing from guide lines to finished violet and coral line art.
Four-stage original construction study: guides, lids and iris, details, then the finished eye.

Common mistakes

Avoid placing two isolated symbols on the face. Let both eyes share a perspective line, but introduce small natural differences in lid height and expression.
